  • Kat Dennings says she's not in Avengers: Doomsday
  • However, she revealed that after appearing as Darcy Lewis, Marvel scanned her, so she's 'in the system'
  • That means 'they could put me in anything they want'

While Marvel has already teased and confirmed much of the cast for the next major installment in the MCU, and we’ve been getting weekly teaser trailers confirming the mainstays who are returning for Avengers Doomsday, one actress is pretty sure she’s not in the movie – but she isn’t making any bets.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Kat Dennings said, “I'm in the universe and as you know, I can't tell you anything, but I am not in it. I mean, I'm not in it. And I'm telling you right now I'm not in it. If I were in it, which I'm not, I couldn't tell you, but I literally am not.

“I'm sure they already filmed it. I was here, I'm not in it," she added. "But they did scan me, so to be honest, they could put me in anything they want at this point. Who knows? I’m in the system!”

It’s quite the take – not just on some of the inner workings at Marvel, which loves to surprise audiences with cameos and guest appearances, as well as end-credit scenes – but also on how the proverbial cookie is made.

They did scan me, so to be honest, they could put me in anything they want at this point. Who knows? I’m in the system!

Kat Dennings

Dennings made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2013 in Thor: The Dark World, but has also appeared in WandaVision – one of my all-time favorite Disney+ shows – and even made an appearance in the animated What If…? All of these appearances were as lovable scientist Darcy Lewis.

Could Dennings make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday without the actress’s involvement, or even by visiting the set? It’s possible, but unlikely. Historically, Marvel hasn’t used these body scans without the actor's direct involvement, and they’re typically used to help finalize virtual effects for the film.

Still, Dennings is clearly pointing out that Hollywood's approach to AI is still evolving, with established studios taking different approaches versus newcomers in the space. After all, 2025 brought us the idea – and release – of an entirely AI-made actor or actress, to very mixed reactions.

While we might be hoping that Darcy Lewis makes an appearance in Avengers Doomsday – and Marvel could be pulling off some clever PR moves here – as of now, Dennings is not on the official cast list. It’s a lengthy one, though, and I’ll give you a paragraph break before naming a few of them to avoid any spoilers…

As of now, Avengers: Doomsday has one of the most stacked casts of any Marvel movie yet, including Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU, not as Iron Man but as Dr. Doom. Beyond that, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth will return as Captain America and Thor, as well as much of the cast from Avengers: Endgame.

We’ll also see the cast of Fantastic Four: The First Steps join the roster, as well as the X-Men enter the fold. It’ll likely be a chaotic film with a lot of action – and, par for the course with the MCU now, lots of jumping between worlds, timelines, and ultimately universes.

Avengers Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and you can check out our comprehensive guide to the film. You can also get caught up on the MCU by using one of the best streaming services, Disney+ – after all, you've got plenty of time before Doomsday hits the silver screen.

Disney+ and Hulu annual ad-supported plan: was $21.98 per month now $12.99 at Hulu and Disney+To subscribe to Disney+ and Hulu's ad-supported plans separately would normally cost just under $22 a month for a bundle, but you can get them both for $12.99 a month, representing a saving of 40% on separate annual plans. Sadly, you'll have to watch commercials on both streaming services, but with a saving of over $100 on offer compared to if you bought both services separately, we suspect you'll think it's a price worth paying. This is the usual bundle saving, to be clear.
