Following on from their roles in the Wicked film series, Bailey and Grande will star in a new stage production of the 1984 musical Sunday in the Park with George. The musical has not had a major London staging in almost two decades.

Stephen Sondheim was responsible for the music and lyrics, while James Lapine wrote the musical’s book. It is loosely based on the life of Georges Seurat, who painted the iconic pointillist artwork Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Marianne Elliott will direct, while Tom Scutt will design for the musical.

It will also serve as Grande’s London stage debut, and her first return to the stage since appearing in A Snow White Christmas at the Pasadena Playhouse in 2012.

The musical will be staged at the Barbican Centre in summer 2027, with tickets on sale in May 2026 – you can purchase them at the Barbican website and box office.

NME reviewed the second instalment of Wicked when it was released last year. In a three-star review, we praised Bailey for adding “razzle-dazzle as Fiyero”, while Grande was lauded for bringing “real depth to conflicted good witch Glinda”.

“The one truly showstopping moment is Elphaba and Glinda’s climactic rendition of ‘For Good’, a big, blustery show tune that sums up their entire relationship,” we added. “Wicked: For Good doesn’t defy gravity like its predecessor but fans will want to hold space for a sequel with a very poignant payoff”.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande will also visit London in 2026 for her ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour. It will be Grande’s first return to the stage in six years, following her 2019 ‘Sweetener’ tour dates.

Grande will undertake a five-night residency at The O2 in London, marking the only UK dates for ‘The Eternal Sunshine’ tour. These will take place between August 15 and 23 – get any remaining tickets here.

In other news, Ariana Grande has joked she “would need an extra brain” to release new music.
